Tree Rain Alpine Club
Cascadia, Earth
On a sunny April Day in 2017, three friends were out backcountry skiing in the Pacific Northwest. The fresh snow from the night before was melting off the trees and hitting the skiers on their heads. Two of the friends had just returned from a winter in the Utah desert where they had become accustomed to the dry climate. One questioned “What is this falling from above? TREE RAIN!?”
Thus, the seeds of a new movement were planted. Call it backcountry delirium, but every time these friends were hit with another fat drop from the melting snow that fateful morning, they screamed “TREE RAIN!”
“Tree Rain” became the chant of that season, and the seasons to follow. The moisture of the PNW provided ample opportunities to be pelted with droplets from above. If you have a love for the mountains of the PNW, you’ll surely need a tolerance for the precipitation that comes with it. We proudly wear this heartiness for nearly-constant mist like a badge. Or maybe I should say hundreds of mini-badges beading up on rain gear from head to toe.
A year later, a formal group appeared: The Tree Rain Alpine Club.
Founded in the heart of Cascadia, the Tree Rain Alpine Club is more than just your typical alpine club, it’s a Pacific Northwest lifestyle.
